If weight loss was one of the resolutions of your New Year, do not expect your genes to lead you to your goal.
In a new report, scientists estimate that more than 6,000 genes affect weight in mice.
Although these discoveries came from mice studies, they may have meant for people, observes the researcher Michael Tordoff, doctorate, from the center of Senses Chemical sensors of Philadelphia.
"Reports describing the discovery of a new" obesity gene "have become common in scientific literature and also the popular press," says Tordoff in a news version. "Our results suggest that each newly discovered gene is only one of the many thousands that influence body weight, then a quick solution to the problem of obesity is unlikely."
