Several days ago, the FDA approved a new technology designed to accomplish what liposuction performs - but without surgery; Without drilling the skin. It sounds too good to be true?
The high-tech device by Zeltiq performs this goal freezing the fat cells below the skin. When the fat cells are frozen, they die. These fat cells dissolve and then release its contents. When people have an abnormal accumulation of "fat", this means that their fixed number of fat cells is taking advantage of liquid fat content.
With zeltiq coolscupting, the patient is in a chair and technician assigns multiple suction cups that, "grabbing" a fat folding folding down, start freezing adipose tissue. The surface skin, it is not frozen. Apparently, you get a nap or read or anything else. It is described as "just a bit uncomfortable" and that there may be a little bruising or redness for several days.
Because there is a timeline for how long it takes the destroyed fat cells to release its content to be digested internally by the normal body cleaning mechanisms, it may take several months for the results to show. In addition, to achieve a desired result, several sessions may be required. The areas that normally make the best are those who also do better with liposuction: the top muffin, front abdomen and flank love handle areas for men and women.
It will be interesting to see how well this works now that it is available for plastic surgeons and bodily cosmetic dermatologists. The company reported 7,000 patients with the procedure around the world; I do not know how many procedures were made in U.S.
What I learned about the procedure is what I read in authoritative articles in the press, particularly the Wall Street Journal and also in the company press release. I would have liked to have seen a wide variety of photos before and after. I hope we have access to this soon.
Meanwhile, stay tuned. I want to learn as much as you can about this procedure, because if it is successful - and time tell us this - this is a great achievement.
You've heard that one of my favorite proverbs is "Science never sleeps." Zeltiq is another example. Who would have imagined that anyone could lose fat freezing the skin fat layer? You know, this could revert mass migration to Sunbelt. Suddenly, Wisconsin looks good in winter!
