Studies were held between 1999 and 2019 by researchers in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Japan, China, Korea, Iran and Tobago. Everyone involved adults between 18 years or older, with patients tracked from three to 24 years.

Previous studies, Khan said, "limited to older people or only people who live in the West. Our study, the greatest until today, confirms these results in people living around the world."

Revised studies included a minimum of three different measures to evaluate body fat. Some considered the circumference of the waist, hip and / or thigh, while others recorded the waist-to-hill / height or thigh indexes of each individual.
