Every day seems to bring another low carbohydrate product for grocery store shelves. Low carbohydrate beer is old hat. Fight of low carbohydrate glues by our dollars of soft drinks. And you have not experienced a candy low-carb bar?

lower carbohydrate products are waiting on the wings. But your manufacturers may have lost the boat, says Lee Smith, president of Insightexpress, an online research firm. A new study of InsightExpress shows that half of Americans who experienced low carbohydrate diets gave them. Only one in 10 of us is on low carbohydrate diets, the search shows. And the trend is down, not up.

"The peak of the low carbohydrate trend may have happened," said Smith WebMD. "The trend is that people think they do not want to go on a low carbohydrate diet. They are starting not to buy low carbohydrate products that are entering the market."

Low Carbohydrate Mania has spent extraordinarily long, says Don Montuori, editor for Facts Reports packed at MarketResearch.com, a market analysis company.

"Personally, I am shocked that the low carbohydrate mania had such legs," says Montuori. "On the one hand, the idea you can eat all the meat and eggs and cheese you want - this is difficult not to like it. But no cookies or bread? We are a loving wheat country. Beans processed are the carbohydrates who like to Eat. "

Carbohydrates disappearing from consumer radar? InsightExpress survey included a random sample of 500 people recruited over the Internet in a period of 48 hours in early July 2004. The search has a range of errors of about 4%.

What nutritional traits do consumers think important? According to the search:

  • 40% consider the total content of calories of a food.
  • 37% consider the total fat content of a food.
  • 32% consider the calories of fat food.
  • 31% consider the content of food cholesterol.
  • 30% consider the total content of carbohydrates of a food.
  • 29% consider the sodium content of a food.
  • 19% consider the content of food protein.
four in five Americans have never been on a low carbohydrate diet, the search shows. Only one in five say they would think of buying a low carbohydrate product. And less than a third of research interviewees say they would be more likely to buy a low carbohydrate version of their favorite food.

"People have the perception that low carbohydrate diets are not healthy, or that these diets can not help them control their weight," says Smith.


Is The Low-Carb Craze Waning?

Exercise, energy gain of all the most popular diet approaches, what consumers seem to like best is weight observers, research suggests.

But when it comes to losing weight, only 25% said diets were the way to go. More than 60% of research interviewees endorsed exercise as the best thing to try. Almost how many endorsed a change in eating and a half habits said that eating healthier and more nutritious foods would do the trick.

"The best news is that most people know that the best way to control their weight is to exercise more," says Smith.

if smith is right, and the carbete mania is ending, what comes next?

"Trans fats will be the next big thing," it foresees Montuori.
