"I want to lose 50 pounds!"

"I want to get into my skinny jeans."

"I want skinny abs and toned."

These are common goals (or some version of them), but not those that will take too far. Dare to say "useless"? They are not important enough to carry you all the way - and keep it there.

To define a goal, you can be committed to - and achieve - you need to create a vision for your life and your health.

Ask yourself some important questions: Why do you want to lose 50 pounds? What is your true why? What losing these pounds means to you? What will you be able to do what you can not do today? Finally play with your kids on the floor and do not fight to go back up? Try in new clothes and feel good about the way you look? Do you have self-esteem to go out on dates? Or maybe it will mean a life free of medicines, replaced by a healthy lifestyle. Now you're talking! These are goals that are worth reaching.

View the difference? In the original goal, you are getting rid of something (weight). In the new and best goal, you are creating something (a new life!). Why does this make such a big difference? It's all about tension.

When you start your journey, the difference between where you are now and where you want to be is great. Think of the tension in a stretched elastic. One end represents your current situation and the other end your future when you reached your goal. There is a lot of tension in that rubber band! So you get on your journey. The weight is coming out. "I am doing great!!" There is less tension in that elastic. You leave a little because you are feeling good with the weight you lost. And slowly, the weight returns. Nothing has changed because you were not reaching something new.

Now ask yourself what might be the most important issue: what will your life be changed?

Even if you may not feel feasible, the healthiest version of you, and the life you imagine for yourself, is waiting for you to find your real reason. The thing that takes you from inside. Once you create this vision for yourself and realize why this journey really matters, the rest will fit. Fuir and frustration will be replaced by hope.

One more suggestion: Surrounding a community of people working on similar vision-based goals. It's hard to go alone and your chance of success is much bigger when you're surrounded by others on the same journey. Find others who are ready to abandon the "diet" mentality and focus on healthy habits once and for all, create the life you want for yourself.
