Turning Fat Into Muscle ... and Bone ... and Blood Cells - Calves Fat Loss

Finally, modern medicine has something good to say about fat. The current search shows that it is an excellent source for bone, cartilage, muscle and perhaps even blood cells. Or more precisely, it is an excellent source for stem cells that may be requested to develop in bone or muscle, says Marc Hedrick, MD, a plastic surgeon in UCLA that has been studying fat in the last three years. He and his colleagues report their research in the April edition of tissue engineering. as plastic surgeon, Hedrick regularly uses liposuction to remove the fat from abdomen, thighs, arms, back - any place where a bland protuberance can be found. "And the fat that was removed was just thrown away," he says. So far, that is. Hedrick and his colleagues began to investigate lipaspired fat to find out if it could be used to grow new fat cells that could be used to treat people who have "rare fat disorders wasting. ... [then, while] they look at some fat cells under a microscope, I noticed some of the cells [had characteristics] that looked like nerve or bone cells," says WebMD.

that led hedrick to theorize that adipose tissue, called adipose tissue, can be a source of stem cells - the so-called primitive cells that can be stimulated grows in specific types cells like bone cells or muscle cells. Currently the best source for stem cells is the bone marrow, says Hedrick. The other source is fetal fabric, but controversy decreased or stopped this research. "Lipaspirada fat is an excellent alternative source," says Hedrick pointing this liposuction can be held in physician offices with little risk or discomfort for patients. Hedrick, and his colleagues from Pittsburgh University, harvested bone cells, muscles, nerve and blood vessel and "grew these cell lines in the laboratory ". Farshid Guilak, PhD, orthopedic research director at Duke University Medicine School in Durham, NC, says Hedrick's study confirms similar work by his team in the Duke. "This is very gratifying to find the confirmation of another laboratory," says Guilrak WebMD.
While Hedrick's team is interested in various different types of stem cells, the Guillak group is concentrating on increasing fat cartilage. He said that although all kinds of cells are abundant in fat, "the first clinical application can be for cartilage." Your group is planning to start studies in mice to determine if the cells harvested from human fat can "establish a new cartilage in a wounded joint." Guillak says he is "concentrating on fat obtained from abdominal fat deposits. I suspect there are fat differences based on their location.. in the body . " Hedrick says his team is "using fat all over the body". He, however, says that fat composition is unlikely to be different from the location. both hedrick and guillak say tests in humans can be at least five years away. In addition, Hedrick says that the "first human use for stem cells derived from adipose will be for autologous transplants." This means that cells will be transplanted in the same person that had fat removed. Autologous transplants do not run the risk of tissue rejection associated with donor transplants, he says. This is very bad for people who were planning to make deposits on a fat bank, but the good news is that Hedrick says the fat banks are a real possibility for the future . "at some point, it may be possible to use cells collected from donor fat to transplants, but not until autologous transplants are successful," says Hedrick . Meanwhile, to the ecologically mind, Hedrick says, the "romance concept here is that we are taking something that was thrown away - fat - and break- LO in component parts for reuse. " is, it says, the best recycling project.
