1. Say "om"
Learn to meditate to help reduce stress and improve blood sugar levels.

Exercise helps keep your blood sugar under control, and almost everyone can take a quick daily walk.
3. Eat right
Follow your food plan. If you do not have one, ask your doctor about seeing a nutritionist specializing in diabetes.

Drop 10% of your body weight through diet and exercise.

Diabetes complications can cause loss of vision or blindness. Schedule a complete exam at least once a year.

You can not feel lesions on the foot, so check the two feet daily for blisters, cuts or wounds.

Pack your plate with a palette of green, yellow and red - like spinach, squash and tomatoes.

- Use the Web or your Smartphone to help you manage what you eat. Online tools can help you track your calorie consumption, help in dining planning and provide important nutrition information to help you make healthy choices.
- Get a pedometer. People with diabetes need to exercise. For many of my patients, this means walking. Set a goal.

- Diabetes can be discouraging. You may feel sad, anxious or depressed for no apparent reason. Get support, and you will be more able to meet the challenges.
- Control of portion is fundamental. Board The amount of food you intend to eat, and do not go back for seconds.
